A like-new plastic handbag, found on the street – abandoned, intact, but out of the system. In this work I transformed this find into two objects that oscillates somewhere between fashion accessory, disciplinary instrument, and fetish aesthetic.
Disassembled into its individual parts and reassembled, the form of the objects is reminiscent of a dog collar or bondage harness. It evokes training, control, submission – but also desire and play. The bag's original function – managing possessions, signaling status – is, in fact, reversed: It remains a dysfunctional ornament that reflects norms rather than fulfills them.
The title "MC" is deliberately open-ended: Mind Control, Mainstream Culture, Master of the Ceremony. In the tension between the poverty of material (plastic) and fashionable appeal (design), a picture emerges of how belonging is often conveyed through form, not content.
